“Tom, I’ve subscribed to this newsletter of yours since the beginning and I count exactly 200 issues. And in not a single one have you recommended a wine. I’m wondering what kind of wine writer writes 200 stories and never recommends a single wine. I like your writing, but a lot of us are trying to figure out which of the millions of wines available we should buy. It’s not easy and a little help would be appreciated. I want to keep supporting and subscribing, but a little wine talk would be nice.

Always wanting to keep each and every subscriber, this one is for you.
First, it’s 202 posts since beginning this Substack newsletter in January of last year. And if you want another 3,500 pieces of writing, you’ll find them here (none, by the way, recommend any wines)
You ought to know that while I could recommend wines, there are probably about 1,001 other writers out there who do this already. Some of them even make a living doing this. My day job is as a publicist and over the years I’ve represented scores of wineries. I always thought it was a conflict of interest to recommend wines when I was representing other wineries.
But, always wanting to keep a subscriber happy and subscribing, I’ll break my rule, sort of, for you.

In my view, the most exciting Syrah being made in the United States right now is coming out of the Walla Walla appellation in eastern Washington and Oregon.
