I sometimes forget about the questions I sometimes pose at the beginning of commentary. I pose the question up front for the obvious reason of signaling to all of you that I and my hubris are about to answer it. I posed just such a question in my last email concerning the proposition that it was wrong for beer companies to market their suds to men. The question went like this:

Is it OK or is it a sign of moral weakness for a beer company to market its suds primarily to men?

It turns out that Dave Baxter, a loyal reader and wine guy, didn’t forget I asked the question and in fact provided his own answer. I want to respond to his answer, but not without first thanking him here for taking the time to write a response and to encourage all of you to push back against my positions in the comments. It makes for good reading, good learning, and good discussion.
