With the proliferation of the production of fine wines and fine wine drinking in the United States in the 1990s - 2010s came the rise of the wine critic. And with the rise of the wine critic in the U.S. came the rise of the 100 point wine rating scale. It is not too much to assert that wine critics and wine magazines aimed at informing the American wine drinker during this time period gave U.S. wine drinkers a means to navigate the rising tide of wines.
