The Alcohol/Cancer Lawsuits are On their Way—That Didn't Take Long
We can thank the Surgeon General's Il-advised Advisory.
The anti-alcohol cabal of alarmists has been circling the wine industry for quite some time, notching victories through the World Health Organization and others. However, it was the U.S. Surgeon General’s ill-advised recent Advisory that alcohol causes cancer and his declaration that cancer warning labels are necessary that was the biggest win in decades for those who want to destroy the industry. Now we have the first indications that the impact could be substantial.
When I wrote about the consequences of the Surgeon General’s advisory a few days ago, I noted that one consequence would be legal. Specifically, I noted that:
“If there is not a lawsuit filed against “Big Alcohol” within two years of today, I’ll be shocked. If plaintiffs’ attorneys are not at this moment beginning to plan their briefs in advance of filing their lawsuit, I’d be shocked. The lawsuit is coming.”
I imagined in that article that a class action lawsuit against “Big Alcohol” would have language that looked something like this:
“Big Alcohol has known for decades that alcohol causes cancer and did nothing to warn the public. They have perpetrated a fraud upon the public and they must pay.”
It didn’t take long. The attorneys are already looking for plaintiffs to sue the alcohol industry and it only took a few days past the Surgeon General’s Advisory was released on January 4:
“If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer linked to alcohol consumption, you may have the right to pursue compensation through a product liability lawsuit. Alcohol manufacturers must be held accountable for failing to warn the public about the known cancer risks associated with their products.”
Yes, they are indeed already organizing for a lawsuit and seeking plaintiffs.
