According to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the 2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines will be released in December. It appears, based on the most recent reports, that these Guidelines will alter little, if any, previous federal guidelines on alcohol that describe safe consumption as 1 drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.

If this is true, it’s very good news for Americans and good news for the wine industry. However, celebrating the news will not be enough.

There is an entire industry of anti-alcohol fanatics that are gearing up to attempt to discredit the anticipated alcohol guidelines. Moreover, this cabal has already shown us how they will attempt to do this. Equally important, their effort to discredit will go unchallenged unless there is a counterpoint to their efforts.

It will be very important that the wine industry is prepared to push back against the inevitable complaints and pushback against these recommendations and that every member of the industry publicizes the reaffirmation of commonsense and science.

What can we expect? How can the pushback be effective?
