The Compelling Wine Story With Corruption and Politics Not Being Told
Consumers need to hear this story.
Do consumers deserve to know the dynamics of alcohol sales and distribution? Do wine drinkers need to know about the three-tier system and how it has corrupted the supply chain that brings them the wines they buy? Who will explain this to consumers? Do the wine content creators possess this responsibility?
Based on publishing THE SPILL for nearly two months now, it appears that wine writers, wine magazines, wine content creators, and wine influencers don’t believe consumers need to know any of this, and there also appears to be no responsibility felt by the chroniclers of wine to explain it.
But imagine if it were different. Imagine for a moment if hard truths, told simply and directly by the chroniclers of wine to the audiences they serve, were commonplace—or at least were occasional.
THE SPILL is a newsletter that arrives daily in wine consumers’ inboxes that curates the best wine content on the web. In less than two months, it has signed up over 1,200 subscribers. To create THE SPILL, hundreds of pieces of wine content are reviewed daily. About 20-25 of the best appear in the newsletter. This means that I’ve culled through thousands of pieces of wine content. In that time, not a single article, video, or podcast has attempted to explain the poison that is the three-tier system. Not one. Why? I have my suspicions.
