The New Project is Here: The Spill
Many years in the making and about to launch...it's just what wine lovers need today
I’ve been a vociferous consumer of wine news for more than 30 years. I’ve worked closely with writers, editors, reporters, and content creators during a long career as a PR and media relations consultant and writer. But while I have easy access to the most important wine trade and wine business news curated for me every day and delivered to my inbox by Wine Business, Wine Industry Insight, and Wine Industry Advisor, what I (and wine consumers) don’t have is easy access to consumer-oriented wine news.
I’m talking about the reports and reviews from wine magazines, features on wine-related travel, wine education articles, news that blends wine and culture, easy access to the most recently dropped wine podcasts, new interviews with wine people, wine shopping news, etc, etc.
The fact is, there is so much of this kind of wine news—far more than wine trade and business news—that it’s almost impossible to track the best stuff without considerable time spent…and I’ve spent it!!
That’s why I’m creating and launching:
What is The Spill?
A free, daily (M-F) email with the best 20-30 consumer-oriented pieces of wine news, wine education, wine entertainment, wine podcasts, wine videos, and more.
Scanable and easily digested. Designed to take no more than a minute to see what’s new. Interested in one of the stories? Click and read (or watch or listen).
Free to all. Just subscribe with your email, and it’s yours.
Human Edited. AI isn’t telling me what to put in the newsletter. My team and I have created a system that allows me to easily evaluate what’s new and to identify the best through an editor’s eye.
My goal is two-fold. I want to make it quick, easy, fun, and educational for wine enthusiasts and wine curious, and everyone in between, to get their hands on the most interesting and entertaining wine news on the web. Second, I want to send these wine people to the creators, writers, editors, commentators, magazines, blogs, and newsletters that are doing great work.
Eventually, there will be advertising in the newsletter, but the idea is to keep it relevant to the readers and the readers relevant to the advertisers. (No ads about window replacements and no purchases of subscribers from list brokers)
If you think this is for you, then you can subscribe to The Spill now, in advance of the launch, which is coming very soon (plus, you get a little gift as an early subscriber)
You can also forward this newsletter to friends who might be interested in a daily drop of wine news
If you are interested in advertising down the road. Just email me: tom@thespill.net.
I’ve been thinking about this project for quite some time. The amount of wine content on the web and socials has exploded. The Spill is needed more today than ever before.
Finally, this Fermentation Substack isn’t going anywhere, either. It will continue on its regular schedule.
Go ahead and reach out to me if you have any questions about The Spill. If you are a content creator and want to make sure I’m seeing your work for inclusion in The Spill, just email me and let me know: tom@thespill.net.
David White used to do this years ago at Terroirist, and his careful curation made it a super beneficial place to scan useful wine news for consumers each day. Hopefully you can pick up that mantle -- it's sorely needed...
Yay, looking forward to some good news to share...maybe even open a few minds among naysayers...thanks!
