The only thing we know for sure about how Tuesday’s presidential election will impact wine is that if Donald Trump wins, he will almost assuredly reimpose tariffs on European wines. Beyond that, we merely know that there will certainly be an impact on the wine industry if either candidate wins.
Policy matters. Macroeconomics matter. World trade patterns and trends matter. Tax policy matters. They can help or hinder the wine industry and we don’t yet know how they will be affected by the election.
Due to this and for many other reasons, I don’t have an endorsement for you for the coming election. I’ll leave that to newspapers like the Washington Post and LA Times.
However, I do have something for you:
THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DRINKING GAME
The rules are as follows…
TAKE TWO SIPS OF WINE EVERY TIME:
-A state is called for the candidate you voted for
EMPTY YOUR GLASS EVERY TIME:
-A state is called for the candidate you did not vote for
TAKE ONE SIP OF WINE EVERY TIME:
-A commentator on TV tells you a state is “too close to call”
TAKE TWO SIPS OF WINE WHEN:
-When your candidate gets to 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 electoral votes
EMPTY YOUR GLASS WHEN:
-The candidate you did not vote for gets to 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 electoral votes
DOWN YOUR ENTIRE GLASS WHEN:
-Your candidate is declared the winner.
DOWN TWO GLASSES OF WINE WHEN:
-The candidate you did not vote for is declared the winner.
I have no prediction for you on who is going to win this election. However, I can tell you that you’re gonna need a lot of wine.
Do people actually still watch as the results come in? I’d rather chew glass.
🤣🤣👍🍷
