Top Five Drink Pairings for Night One of Hanukkah

We are only two days out from the first night of Hanukkah. This can mean only one thing: Attacking the difficult task of determining what goes with Night One socks and Latkes. This is an annual conundrum for so many people I wanted to give some options for those still mulling the questions.

1. Manischewitz
At 11% alcohol and with juuuuust a touch of residual sugar, Manischewitz Concord wine is something you can serve your young son in very small amounts that will both appeal to him as well as soothe his feelings for having ripped open that First Night gift and, once again, finding grey tube socks instead of Pokemon cards.

2. Oregon Pinot Noir
Fried potatoes, sour cream, and apple sauce…all in one dish. And what’s not to like about that? You’re gonna need a drink that will satisfy the earthiness of the potatoes, the creamy sour cream, and the sweet/sour character of the apple sauce. Of course, it’s going to be a nice bottle of Pinot Noir, which as we all know can be said to pair with just about anything you can’t figure out what to do with. Plus, one glass per Latke means the third latke tastes much better than the first. And why shouldn’t it be from Oregon?
