Tom, The true collectibles like Harlan, Ridge, Dominus etc have certainly aged well for 30 years or more. My query to colleague Dan B is, where are the sales data that show Napa Cab declining? I didn’t see any numbers to back up his argument
Hi Jim...Dan is going with anecdotal rather than hard data. And now that I think about it, I'm not sure where one would go to examine the trajectory of sales for $250+ Napa wines. That said, I've had a few of the cults from the early 1990 and agree they seem to be fine. On the other hand, the fact that we have access to the top wines from the 70s and 80s at relatively affordable prices is exciting and I think something those buying today's cults ought to investigate.
